Denise Ho comes out of the closet at gay pride parade

Hong Kong singer Denise Ho declared that she is gay, during a gay pride parade in Hong Kong on Saturday, reported Hong Kong media.

Ho is the first mainstream female singer in Hong Kong to have come out of the closet.

“I am a ‘comrade’ (A Chinese slang word for “gay”)!” said Ho, whose sexual orientation has long been the subject of speculation. 

“For many years, when I faced questions from the media, I always felt that sexual orientation is a personal matter, that there is no need to label yourself.

“But in 2012, I find that there is still discrimination, prejudice and one-sided opinions in society, so I feel that silence is no longer an option,” explained Ho, who drew thunderous applause from the crowd with her address.

Queer Women of Color Poetry Tour Needs Help, Promises A Revival

There’s little left to desire once you learn about The Revival, a salon-style poetry tour that aims to connect hundreds of queer women of color artists and allies. In its third year, the poetry-on-the-go movement holds living room readings with a touring troupe. This year, the tour hits Toronto, DC, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Durham and Brooklyn between October 6 and 13.

But Revival needs everyone’s help - you, everyone you know, your family, your pets, your estranged friends from high school - everyone. With a modest goal of 5,000 dollars for gas, food, performer compensation, and books, they have officially launched a Kickstarter and hope to be done with the whole mess by Tuesday

Diana King comes out: Prominent Jamaican singer admits to being a lesbian

Internationally acclaimed Jamaican singer, Diana King has taken an unprecedented step within the local music industry as she dropped a bombshell on Thursday, admitting that she is a lesbian.

The highly regarded Reggae singer, known for classics such as Shy Guy, I Say A Little Prayer and L-L-Lies made the confession through a note which she issued on her official Facebook page. It’s a historic moment within the local music industry as she’s the first artiste of note to come out as a homosexual.

In her note, King wrote, “My name is DIANA EUGENA KING, known to most as DIANA KING my fans call me KingSinga.”

Dare I say that QWOC+ Boston - Queer Women of Color and Friends, QWOCMAP - Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project, Serafemme Queer Women of Color Music Festival, and a Chicago blogger are responsible for saturating the internet with the “QWOC” acronym, and ultimately prompting todays Gay Word of the Day? (I just tried googling “QWOC” to confirm this)

Hopefully, the LGBT community will stop going “Huh??” whenever I say “QWOC!” I remember when a Dyke March Committee member told me to change QWOC+ Boston’s name/acronym because it sounded “ridiculous” and no one would take us seriously…

I replied to Queer Unity and asked them to update their photo to include more cultural diversity along with the acronym, because “women of color” clearly doesn’t just equal just black women…
